# What is a global trigger on Instagram?

A global trigger is an account-wide keyword that fires an automation wherever it appears: on any post, reel or story, and in DMs, including content you publish later. In ReplyRep, Global Triggers answer words like "shipping" or "restock" everywhere at once, with 5 per account on the Free plan and up to 500 on MAX.

## How does a global trigger work?

A normal [keyword trigger](https://replyrep.io/glossary/keyword-trigger) belongs to one post. A global trigger belongs to the account. You set the keyword and the reply once, and it listens on every post, reel, story and DM, including the ones you post next month. Each comment still gets a single [private reply](https://replyrep.io/glossary/private-reply), as Meta allows.

| | Post keyword | Global trigger |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where it listens | One post or reel | Every post, reel, story and DM |
| New posts | Set up per post | Covered automatically |
| Best for | Launches, giveaways, one-off freebies | Questions people ask everywhere |
| Limit in ReplyRep | Unlimited on every plan | Free 5, Lite 20, Boost 50, MAX 500 |

## What is a good example of a global trigger?

**Size chart, everywhere**
- Comment keyword: SIZE
- DM: Here's the size chart for everything we make: yourbrand.com/sizes. Tell me your usual size and the item, and I'll check the fit.

Other words that work well as global triggers: SHIPPING, RESTOCK, DISCOUNT, BOOK and HOURS. They are the questions that turn up under every post, whatever it is about.

## Why do global triggers matter?

Old posts keep getting comments long after you stop watching them. Without a global trigger, a "shipping?" comment on a post from last spring waits for you to notice it, or never gets answered. With one, it gets the same answer as a comment on today's reel.

## How does ReplyRep handle global triggers?

Global Triggers are on every plan, per account: Free 5, Lite 20, Boost 50, MAX 500. Default Triggers and AI-generated triggers are on every plan too, so you can let AI suggest keywords and keep the ones you like. See [global keyword triggers](https://replyrep.io/features/global-keyword-triggers) for the feature, and the [best Instagram comment keywords](https://replyrep.io/guides/best-instagram-comment-keywords) for word ideas.

**Answer the same question once** Set a Global Trigger and every post, old and new, answers it for you.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between a keyword trigger and a global trigger?

A keyword trigger listens on one post. A global trigger listens across the whole account, on every post, reel, story and DM, including future ones. Use post keywords for launches and giveaways, and global triggers for questions people ask everywhere.

### How many global triggers can I have in ReplyRep?

It depends on the plan, per Instagram account: Free 5, Lite 20, Boost 50, MAX 500. Keywords set on a single post don't count toward this and are unlimited on every plan.

### Do global triggers work on posts I publish later?

Yes. That is the point of a global trigger: once it is set, new posts, reels and stories are covered without any extra setup. A keyword like SHIPPING keeps working on every post you publish until you switch it off.

### Can a post keyword and a global trigger use the same word?

Avoid it. Two automations listening for the same word make it unclear which reply should go out, and Meta allows only one private reply per comment. Give each automation its own keyword.
