# What is an Instagram professional account?

An Instagram professional account is a business or creator account, as opposed to a personal one. Meta's APIs only work with professional accounts, so you need one to use any official DM automation tool, including ReplyRep. With the Instagram API with Instagram Login, Meta does not require the account to be linked to a Facebook Page.

## What does a professional account do?

Instagram has personal accounts and professional ones. Meta says an Instagram professional account can represent a business or a creator, and that apps using its APIs require their users to have one. You switch in the Instagram app's settings. Both types can use Instagram Messaging through the API.
