How does a DM-driven product launch work?
A launch has two moments where people raise their hand: when you tease it and when it goes live. Comment automation catches both. During the tease, a keyword like EARLY adds people to a waitlist and tells them what is coming. On launch day, a keyword like DROP sends the product link directly, and the waitlist gets a message that it is live.
Because the trigger sits on the post, the reel and your stories at the same time, every place you mention the launch feeds the same funnel. You write the messages once and spend launch day answering the questions a keyword cannot predict.
Why do launches convert better in the DMs?
- Speed. Launch interest peaks in the first hours. A DM that lands seconds after the comment catches people at that peak, not after they have scrolled on.
- Direct to product. The DM links straight to the product page, not to a link page with six other buttons.
- Reach. Every keyword comment is engagement on the launch post, which tends to push it further.
- A second chance. People who comment and do not buy are already in a conversation, so a follow up reaches them.
How do you set up launch automation?
- 1
Two weeks out: open the waitlist
Post a teaser with "Comment EARLY to get first access". The DM confirms they are on the list and, if you want, asks for an email so you can reach them off Instagram too.
- 2
Prepare the launch post before it goes live
Create the launch-day automation on the unpublished post so the trigger is armed the second it appears in the feed.
- 3
Make the launch keyword global
Set DROP (or your product name) as a Global Trigger so it works on every post, reel, story reply and DM, including the ones you post during launch week.
- 4
Gate it with a follow, if growth matters
Follow-gated DMs check the follow before sending the link, so a launch grows the account as well as the sales.
- 5
Add a follow up and a suggestion
A follow up for people who did not click, and a suggestion after the link for the matching add-on or bundle.
- 6
Test, then post
Comment the keyword from a test account on both the teaser and the launch post. Check links, prices and the name field.

What should the launch caption say?
Lead with the keyword and the payoff in the first line: "Comment DROP and I'll send you the link the second it's live." Use the same keyword across every launch post so returning followers do not have to learn a new one, and say it out loud in the reel.
Arm your launch post before you publish it
Set up the waitlist and launch-day keywords free, then upgrade if launch week needs the queue and follow ups.
Which ReplyRep features matter for a launch?
| Feature | What it does in this play | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Automate posts before you publish them | The launch post is answering from its first comment | Every plan |
| Follow-Gated DMs | The follow is checked before the link is sent | Lite and up |
| Viral post DM queue | DMs over Meta's sending limit wait in order instead of being dropped | Lite and up |
| Follow Up | A second message for people who did not click | Lite and up |
| Suggest More | After the link, a nudge toward the add-on or bundle | Lite and up |
What should you measure during a launch?
- Waitlist size from the teaser keyword, against last launch.
- Launch-hour DMs sent and how many waited in the queue.
- Click to purchase rate from the UTM-tagged link in your shop analytics.
- Follow-up recoveries: sales from people who bought after the second message.
- New followers during launch week, if you used a follow gate.
Launch mistakes to avoid
- Changing the keyword between the teaser and the launch post.
- Linking to the homepage instead of the product page.
- Forgetting to switch the DM when the product sells out. Point it at the restock list instead.
- Sending a follow up to people who already bought, if you have a way to tell them apart.
