Instagram email capture DM templates that people answer

An Instagram email capture DM template asks for the email inside the chat in one short line, says exactly what they will receive and how often, then delivers straight away in the next message. Below are 10 templates for newsletters, welcome codes, waitlists, restock alerts and reports, written for creators, shops, coaches, local businesses and agencies.

What makes an email capture DM work?

People give an email when the trade is obvious. The DM names the thing, asks once, and delivers fast. ReplyRep's Email Collector saves the reply and exports it as CSV or syncs it to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot or Google Sheets. The full play is in growing your email list from Instagram.

  • Name what they get. "This week's recipe", not "updates".
  • Say how often you email. It lowers the bar.
  • Deliver in the chat too, so a typo does not cost them the thing.
  • Ask for one thing. Email only, unless you will really use a phone number.

How do you adapt these templates?

  1. Swap in your real promise: what you send and how often.
  2. Deliver in the follow up as well as by email. If the freebie is the point, the lead magnet templates have more delivery lines.
  3. Tag the source in your email tool, for example the keyword, so you can segment later.
  4. Link your privacy notice in the welcome email and only add people to the list they agreed to.
  5. Test it. Test every template from a second account before the post goes live. Setup takes about four minutes, and a test comment shows you exactly what a follower will see.

For the step by step, see how to collect emails from Instagram.

Which caption call to action goes with these DMs?

  • "Comment LETTER and I'll send you this week's recipe."
  • "Comment CODE for 10% off your first order."
  • "Comment WAITLIST to hear first when doors open."

Sell the incentive, not the newsletter. If the DM will ask for an email, it is fair to say so in the caption. More keyword ideas are in the best Instagram comment keywords.

Frequently asked questions

In one line, tied to what they asked for: "What's your email? I'll send it there." Say what else they will get and how often you will write, then deliver in the chat straight after they reply.

ReplyRep's Email Collector saves each reply and lets you export them as CSV or sync them to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot or Google Sheets, so they land in the tool you already send from.

Both. Sending the link in the DM means nobody misses out because of a typo, and the welcome email confirms the address works and starts the relationship in their inbox.

Yes, the same as any signup form. Tell people what they are signing up for, link your privacy notice and make it easy to unsubscribe. Rules differ by country, so check the ones that apply to you.
