How does the human agent tag work?
Normally a business has 24 hours after a person's message to reply through the API (the messaging window). Meta's Human Agent feature lets an app send a reply marked with the human_agent tag within 7 days of the user's message, as long as a human agent is responding. Meta's own examples are a business closed for the weekend and an issue that needs more than 24 hours to resolve.
What does a human agent reply look like?
A customer DMs at 6pm on Friday: "my order arrived damaged, what now?" Your team is back at 10am on Monday, 64 hours later. The standard window has closed, but a support person can still answer with the tag: "Sorry about that. I've sent a replacement today, tracking to follow." Sending a discount code to that customer as a sales message with the tag would not be allowed.
Why does the human agent tag matter for DM automation?
It is the outside-window option on Instagram that Meta's documentation supports. Several Messenger tools are not available for the Instagram Messaging API, including one-time notifications, sponsored messages and news messaging, and Meta switched off the CONFIRMED_EVENT_UPDATE, ACCOUNT_UPDATE and POST_PURCHASE_UPDATE tags on April 27, 2026. Meta also says message tags may not carry deals, offers, coupons or discounts. Any tool that promises automated follow-ups days later through a tag is outside these rules.
How does ReplyRep handle it?
The tag is for people, not automations, so ReplyRep's automations work inside the standard window instead: they reply about three seconds after a comment, story reply or DM. For questions no keyword covers, AI inbox replies answer in your voice while the window is open. To understand what is and isn't allowed, read is Instagram DM automation allowed.
Answer inside the window, every time
ReplyRep replies in seconds, so the 24 hours rarely matter.
